Waiting on the Lord is the hardest, most tedious, and most exasperating work in the world. But, waiting on the Lord will never be in vain!
When you are waiting on God for His promises, you must be willing to submit to His plan and His timing. When I ask God about His promises for blessing our ministry with one million orphans for God, I wonder, "Will His answers come now when I think it is a good time?"
Will His answers come in the next generation?
His answers will all come in His own time and for His greatest glory. If we truly have faith in God's power, in His promises, and in His purposes, then we can joyfully and patiently wait on Him (vs.34).
If we do not wait on God then we find ourselves out of step with God, out of harmony with His will and plans for our lives, and for the big picture. Isn't it amazing that Jonah became angry at God for not destroying Nineveh? God will always do what He wants to do, whether we like it or not. He will do all things in His time and in His own will. But whatever He does, it is always consistent with His goodness and love.
Until then, I find myself praying for Him to revive my heart, according to Habakkuk 3:2, "I have heard all about you, LORD, and I am filled with awe by the amazing things you have done. In this time of our deep need, begin again to help us, as you did in years gone by. Show us your power to save us."
Instead of asking God to bless our plans, we must first seek His will through reading His word and in prayer. When we learn to wait on God then we realize that only He can bring His promises to pass. Great purposes, great programs, great revivals are not carried out ahead of God, nor apart from God, but by His power (Zech 4:6).
When we wait on the Lord he rewards us with:
- Provision ( vs. 9, 25)
- Protection (vs. 27-28)
- Promotion (vs. 34)
- Purpose (vs. 37)
Waiting on the Lord does not mean that we are to be idle. May God bless you and teach you to do what you can for the Lord, according to His divine will, while at the same time waiting on Him to fulfill His good plans and promises in your life in due time.
