I think many Christians do not understand that prayerlessness is sin! I believe that almost every Christian, preacher, pastor and elder commits this sin more than any other sin listed in the Bible.
Samuel of the Old Testament knew the power of prayer! He knew through prayer that his people divided the Red Sea, stopped Philistines, defeated enemies and brought other great victories. His own mother, a barren woman, gave birth to sons through prayer and he defeated the army of Philistines through prayer. Samuel said that if he didn’t pray for God’s people, it was a sin against the Lord.
I believe that it is high time you and I repent for the sin of prayerlessness.
When God’s people rejected Samuel as their leader, although he was angry with them, he prayed for the people rather than sin against the Lord. God answered and said:
“Heed the voice of the people in all that they say to you; for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me, that I should not reign over them” 1 Samuel 8:7.
I have personally sinned against the Lord by keeping bitterness towards near and dear ones when they hurt and even hate me. I should have prayed as Samuel did. When God’s people hardened their hearts Samuel could have gotten angry and sinned against God, but he prayed to the Lord and the Lord answered his prayer. His answer also brought fear into the hearts of the people toward God and Samuel.
We need more prayer in today’s world. We preachers often think that by our preaching and shouting we can put the fear of God into the hearts of the people. But it is only prayer that can bring fear and conviction to hearts. Let us pray that we may not sin against God.
- Paul prayed for his people that he might not sin against God who could save his people. He saw many get saved.
- John Knox prayed that he would not sin against the people of Scotland. He prayed to see them saved and God brought revival to Scotland.
- John Wesley and William Booth prayed for their people in England that they would not sin against the Lord and God answered their prayers also.
God forbid that I should stop praying for India. What will you do?
