Forgiveness is the key to happiness. All through the Bible we are told to ask God to forgive our sins. Not only that, we are told to forgive one another. It's like a parallel to the first two commandments: Love God. Love one another. Ask God for forgiveness. Forgive one another. Peace of mind comes when we forgive.
As Stephen lay dying, he prayed, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. Don't charge them with their sin!" His body died, but his soul went to be with Christ. The death of Stephen parallels the death of Jesus in that they both were filled with the Holy Spirit. They both died unjustly. They both died uttering words of forgiveness. Think of it this way: If God were not willing to forgive us our sins, heaven would be empty.
Sometimes we may stumble over the truth. When that happens, the only thing to do is to pick ourselves up and watch where we are going. When we walk by an untruth, we approve it. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. There's not much point in burying the hatchet if we put a tombstone on the spot where it's buried. Only when we practice forgiveness will the healing of the world begin.
